Low-Density Insulation Blocks and Hardboards from Amaranth (Amaranthus cruentus) Stems, a New Perspective for Building Applications

چکیده

Nowadays, amaranth appears as a promising source of squalene vegetable origin. Amaranth oil is indeed one the most concentrated oils in squalene, i.e., up to 6% (w/w). This triterpene highly appreciated cosmetology, especially for formulation moisturizing creams. It almost exclusively extracted from liver sharks, causing their overfishing. Thus, providing renewable origin major challenge cosmetic industry. The plant has thus experienced renewed interest recent years. In addition seeds, stem also produced during cultivation. Representing 80% (w/w) aerial part, it composed ligneous fraction, bark, on its periphery, and pith middle. this study, fractionation process was developed separate bark pith. These two fractions were then used produce materials building applications. On hand, hardboards, with deoiled seeds acting natural binder. Such boards are viable alternative commercial wood-based panels. other transformed into cohesive machinable low-density insulation blocks revealing low thermal conductivity value.

Major Peptides from Amaranth (Amaranthus cruentus) Protein Inhibit HMG-CoA Reductase Activity

The objective of this study was to identify the major peptides generated by the in vitro hydrolysis of Amaranthus cruentus protein and to verify the effect of these peptides on the activity of 3-hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl-CoA reductase (HMG-CoA reductase), a key enzyme in cholesterol biosynthesis. A protein isolate was prepared, and an enzymatic hydrolysis that simulated the in vivo digestion of...

Identification of a Catalase-Phenol Oxidase in Betalain Biosynthesis in Red Amaranth (Amaranthus cruentus)

Betalains are a group of nitrogen-containing pigments that color plants in most families of Caryophyllales. Their biosynthesis has long been proposed to begin with hydroxylation of L-tyrosine to L-DOPA through monophenolase activity of tyrosinase, but biochemical evidence in vivo remains lacking. Here we report that a Group 4 catalase, catalase-phenol oxidase (named as AcCATPO), was identified,...

A novel alpha-amylase inhibitor from amaranth (Amaranthus hypocondriacus) seeds.

The major alpha-amylase inhibitor (AAI) present in the seeds of Amaranthus hypocondriacus, a variety of the Mexican crop plant amaranth, is a 32-residue-long polypeptide with three disulfide bridges. Purified AAI strongly inhibits the alpha-amylase activity of insect larvae (Tribolium castaneum and Prostephanus truncatus) and does not inhibit proteases and mammalian alpha-amylases. AAI was sequ...

Pollen Grain Size, Density, and Settling Velocity for Palmer Amaranth (Amaranthus palmeri )

Palmer amaranth is resistant to several herbicides, including glyphosate, and there is concern that the resistance traits can be transferred between spatially segregated populations via pollen movement. The objective of this study was to describe the physical properties of Palmer amaranth pollen, specifically size, density, and settling velocity (Vs), that influence pollen flight. The mean diam...

Calibration and validation of a soil water simulation model (WaSim) for field grown Amaranthus cruentus

A water simulation model (WaSim) to simulate the growth and development of Amaranthus cruentus as well as the components of water balance for a typical sandy-clay-loam soil of Akure has been described. Dry season experiments were carried between January and March of 2005 and 2006. Amaranthus seeds were established on the field and three irrigation water managements were imposed on the crop to d...
